Chris Marshall Senior Administrative Manager

Chris Marshall is the Senior Administrative Manager of The Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health which involves oversight of finance and human resource functions. He joined JHIPH from his prior role as CFO of the State Theater of Maryland. In that role, Chris learned how story-telling is the most effective tool to affect cultural evolution. Prior to this role Chris was the acting Chief Investment Officer for the State of Maryland, located in the Maryland State Treasurer’s Office. While there, he was responsible for managing the $15 billion general fund, among other duties. 

Prior to joining the State, Chris spent over 26 years filling multiple roles at the Baltimore based investment management firm, T. Rowe Price.  He began his career at TRP as a temp. and grew in his role to eventually manage five teams of FINRA Series 7 licensed investment representatives as an Assistant Vice President, before transitioning from client service to investment operations. As Senior Manager and Vice President in Investment Operations, he was responsible for global cash management functions, record-keeping, custodial relations, systems development, multi-national reconciliation, vendor management, leadership development, and many other functions.  

Outside of the office, Chris received the United States Presidential Volunteer Service Award for his work as president of a small local non-profit, Baltimore Green Works which focused on sustainability.  Chris has been board president of two other local non-profits, along with other board positions.  He is a Certified Treasury Professional and holds a yellow belt in Lean/Six Sigma process improvements.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from McDaniel College, and a Masters of Science in Business and Finance from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.  While, originally from California, he has spent most of his life in Baltimore City, where he is currently raising a family with his wife between (infrequent) triathlon races.
