The Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health (JHIPH) is excited to host our inaugural Planetary Health Student Symposium, a gathering designed to highlight the vital role of students in safeguarding health on our rapidly changing planet. 

This event is an opportunity for students to:

  • Connect with the newly formed Planetary Health Student Club
  • Explore how Planetary Health intersects with your own field of study
  • Learn about ways to collaborate with other offices, organizations, and clubs on campus

Faculty and staff are warmly encouraged to attend as well, both to discover how students are shaping the future of Planetary Health and to learn more about the Institute’s work and opportunities for involvement.

12:30 pm – 12:45 | Planetary Health Club Introduction

Overview of the focus and purpose of the Planetary Health Student Club and ways to get involved.

12:45 pm – 1:15 pm | Keynote Address

Keynote address from Anand Pandian, Krieger-Eisenhower Professor, Krieger School of Arts & Sciences.

1:15 pm – 1:30 pm | Peabody Musical Performance

Musical performance by students from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

1:30 pm – 2:15 pm | Breakout Sessions

Attendees will have the option of attending one of two concurrent sessions:

Common Question Student Feedback Workshop

  • This workshop creates a dedicated space for students across disciplines to share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas on Planetary Health. It aims to spotlight student leadership, identify gaps in programming, and build momentum for student-driven engagement at JHU.

Baltimore Community Student Engagement

  • This session invites students, faculty, and staff to hear from panelists who work closely with Baltimore communities about the importance of building meaningful, community-centered partnerships. Panelists will share how their own work integrates students and why student involvement is essential for advancing both learning and community priorities.

2:15 pm – 2:30 pm | Coffee and Tabling

Opportunities to connect with various offices, centers, and other student clubs.

2:30 pm – 3:15 pm | Institute for Planetary Health Information Session

This session provides participants with a comprehensive overview of JHIPH, including its mission, accomplishments in its first year, programmatic strategies, and upcoming opportunities to connect.

3:15 pm – 3:30 pm | Closing Address

Closing remarks from JHIPH leadership.
