Planetary Health Nexus Awards

The Johns Hopkins Institute for Planetary Health is delighted to partner with the Johns Hopkins University’s Nexus Award Program to support initiatives aimed at addressing Planetary Health challenges and solutions. Launched in 2023, Johns Hopkins University’s Nexus Awards provide funding to support convening, research, and teaching at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center.  

Proposals aligned with Planetary Health may request additional an addition $15,000 funding in the following categories: 

  • Convening: Convening teams may request up to $115,000 (standard award: $100,000), with an award term of up to one year for the development and execution of an academic or policy-focused conference or a series of conferences on any topic. These may be one-time events or a series of related events. Learn more about Nexus Award- Convening eligibility and application guidelines
  • Research: Research teams may request up to $315,000 (standard award: $300,000), with an award term of up to two years focusing on either a new area of collaborative work or an expansion of an ongoing area of collaborative work in fundamental, clinical, or applied research, or projects within the arts and humanities. Proposals may include an external, D.C.-based partner, and cross-disciplinary work is encouraged. Learn more about Nexus Award- Research eligibility and application guidelines. 
The Nexus Award Program has already supported a range of projects that advance JHU’s Planetary Health work, including two Convening Awards for: 
  • Humanitarian Frontiers: Bridging Climate, Conflict, and Displacement Analytics for Lifesaving Anticipatory Action: Paul Spiegel (BSPH), Kathryn Falb (BSPH), Ahmed Hassoon (BSPH), Tak Igusa (WSE), Molly Lasater (BSPH), Samuel Myers (BSPH), Youseph Yazdi (SOM), Ben Zaitchik (KSAS)
